Excellent - again. Few journalists come out well. Even fewer politicians. Except one: Charles Kennedy. His vile treatment by the Sun (Ed Rebekkah Brooks) for courageously and forcefully opposing the Iraq invasion would have done Der Stürmer proud.
Can't help suspecting that some otherwise decent journalists simply got carried away, as always happens, in the rush to war that usually precedes conflicts.
Light of day. Second thoughts. Mea culpa. That stuff about rush to war. Cobblers, isn't it. It's the job of the journalist, however evil his/her employer, to gather, interpret and calmly present the facts. Don't have to smear the boss's foul prejudices over what you do. Leave that to the big name 'columnists', who are handed acres of space to splatter their dull opinions and make this world a worse place.
"And then I realised: it was exactly this – ridiculous deference – that helped get Britain into that terrible mess in Iraq."
I'm in a group titled SHAC and I'm regularly frustrated by the amount of obviously downtrodden folk whom appear to treasure this insidious deference in the face of repeated injustice.
Why, because, accepting that British laws are a minefield open to the interpretations of lawmakers, and their paymasters. This is simply unthinkable for too many. 🙃

Thank you, Anthony. Robin Cook also stood up and was smacked down for it.
Agreed. Robin Cook was one of the best.

Thank you, Mic. I eagerly await all your newsletters. You bring a real depth of research to everything you do.
Cheers, Andy. I really appreciate it.
Excellent read Mic 🎯

Yes. People want to pretend there are rules that apply to everyone.
Very very good
Thank you.
