Excellent piece (and I particularly like the line about the umbrella). The initial framing from the BBC was bad enough, but the way it turned the parents' statement into a bland, non-judgemental call for 'the truth' – which they even had the gall to stick in the website headline all day long – was utterly unforgivable.
The BBC is disgusting. They’re clearly preparing to be Farage’s state broadcaster. Maybe they should try and raise William Joyce from the dead to broadcast to us again.
I think at this point there needs to be questions asked about what the actual point of the Today Programme is, given how often its reporting goes beyond bothsidesim and into open propaganda. The rest is symptomatic of a news operation living in fear of the Right and a regulator not fit for purpose and set up now seemingly purely to put the Bedb under scrutiny ( while ignoring far worse behaviour by other broadcasters)

The selective quoting of the parents' statement was the bit that most got me. You're spot on that it was made into something bland.
I'm old enough to remember Johnson lying to the father of a sick child that the press wasn't observing their interaction, all in front of the media. https://www.channel4.com/news/factcheck/factcheck-qa-what-did-boris-johnson-mean-when-he-said-there-were-no-press-at-his-hospital-visit
I’m old enough to have written about that here multiple times!
