I’ve worked in a major UK hospital for 3 decades. This whole thing stinks. And with the prosecution’s experts turning out to be quite unbelievable, it needs to be thrown in the bin. Of the whole British media Private Eye will be the one on the sidelines saying ‘told ya’

Actually, I'm almost certain I remember Mic sounding a warning - very careful and cautious - over the case after the original verdict came in.

Question: if it does comes down to neglect in the hospital, does she also then, play a part in that neglect?

With the way everything is a masterminded plan now, if she's guilty of neglect, I can see some publications spinning her as being framed, in my opinion.

I’ve been in a Special Care baby unit as a mother. The thought of what Lucy Letby did (or might have done?) is horrific. I can’t tell you how vulnerable I felt just being a young mum with a sick baby. I feel for the parents. This whole ‘did she or didn’t she’ thing must be heart-rending for them. I’m not going to attempt to decide whether she’s innocent. That’s for the courts to decide certainly not The Telegraph.

Time and again the press (mostly) fails to provide calm, restrained and objective reporting of an appalling episode and lets its hacks run riot with easy sensationalism, tacky sentimentality and in the end crude prejudice and bias. And from the A6 murder (James Hanratty) to Rachel Nickell (Colin Stagg), Joanna Yeates (Christopher Jefferies) and many others they almost invariably get the wrong suspect - and crucify him/her.
