An utter shithouse who never knew or cared about the truth.
The Hillsborough headline and collusion to cover-up ought’ve finished him - that he got through that shame and more tells you more about the cowardly rot in our institutions than the rotter that accelerated it.
I remember Dennis Potter's poignant last interview in 1994 [with Melvyn Bragg] saying he named his cancer 'Rupert' adding " ...I would shoot the bugger if I could. There is no one person more responsible for the pollution of what was already a fairly polluted press, and the pollution of the British press is an important part of the pollution of British political life."
“Fry and Laurie” (before they sold out) did a sketch about an alternate future if Murdoch wasn’t born. It was very funny but has disappeared from the usual places. He’s the worst person on earth. There can’t be any doubt.
I like how you cover most of the key points a good obituarist would. I do think you usually need to start with 'did this person achieve what they were trying to achieve?', which in this case has to be answered with 'yes, and more'. Then 'how did they go about that?' and then finally there has to be a view on 'what do I, the obituarist, think about the impact they had?'. And on that last...well, if history doesn't utterly damn Murdoch, it'll be because his way will have won, and we'll all be screwed

Best case I know for euthanasia
‘There will never be another Murdoch.’ Wrong. There is and he’s worse: Musk.
